Sarah has a first class Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from the University of York, where she gained the Whinfield prize for highest overall academic achievement for BSc candidates in her year. She continued her studies at the same University, graduating with a PhD in Chemistry with a thesis entitled “Structural studies of the malarial proteins PfEMP1 and MIF from Plasmodium falciparum”.
She has a particular interest in pharmaceuticals, polymer chemistry, coatings, plastics and biotechnology due to her background in both chemistry and biochemistry.
Sarah then spent two years working as a post-doctoral training fellow at the Institute of Cancer Research in the joint Divisions of Cancer Therapeutics and Structural Biology. Here she was an integral member of a large drug discovery team with the aim of developing novel cancer therapeutics against high profile oncoproteins using protein-ligand X-ray crystallography.
