Genekam Biotechnology

Genekam Biotechnology AG (established 1999 in Duisburg, Germany) is specialized on 3 fields: virology (pandemic viruses), immunology, and stem cells. It carries one of the largest numbers of tests for SARS-CoV-2 Wuhan strain along with related bat coronaviruses as well as MERS circulating around the world. It has around 85 different real-time PCR assays for influenza viruses covering (H1 to H15 and N1 to N10). Genekam is one of first companies in the world, which developed commercial real time PCR kits for Zika virus as well as SARS-CoV-2 along with many of influenza viruses. It carries a range of singlex as well as multiplex tests for pandemic viruses like ebola virus, rift valley virus, lassa, dengue, west nile, japanese encephalitits virus etc. and has around 800 different kits for different human pathogens.

Genekam has developed a machine to isolated antibodies from Coronaviruses recovered persons as these antibodies can be used as therapy instead of plasma. It is called SARS hunter.

Development of biopharmaceutics: Genekam is working developing potential therapeutic antibodies. It has created cell lines producing real human antibodies against many pathogens e.g. H5N1, H1N1, Coxiella burnetii, Respiratory synctial virus and so on. These are being under investigation, whether they can produce these antibodies for longterm production as these are true human antibodies, hence they should have less side or no side effects, but Genekam needs to conduct studies to show this.

Antiviral molecules. Genekam carries at least 20 different antiviral molecules e.g. against Zika viruses, influenza viruses, ebola and SARS-CoV-2 Zika antiviral molecules have demonstrated that they are highly effective in vitro with no or very litte side effects.

Magnetic beads technology: Genekam has developed a number of magnetic applications e.g. isolation of human antibodies, remvoval of endotoxins, Nanotechnology part has beeseparated in another company called MICROBOSS Nanomedicine GmbH,
